Review: Biogas Convention & Trade Fair 2025 in Nuremberg

From 9–11 December 2025, we attended the Biogas Convention & Trade Fair in Nuremberg as an exhibitor and look back on three highly successful days at the exhibition.

Our aim was to present Awite and our products to an interested professional audience, establish new contacts, maintain long-standing relationships and engage in valuable discussions within the industry. The response was overwhelming – our stand was very well attended on all three days, and we were able to hold numerous exciting and insightful conversations.

Trade Fair Highlights

A particular highlight was the presentation given by our colleague Ms Britta-Heide Garben, in which she introduced our latest product, the Awi2GO.
Under the title “Smart – Fast – Safe: Mobile Gas Analysis Made Easy with the Awi2GO”, participants were given fascinating insights into innovative mobile gas analysis and the wide range of applications offered by the device.

This presentation tied in perfectly with our trade fair promotion: 25 Awi2GO units with a 15% exhibition discount – an offer that was extremely well received by visitors.

Our prize draw also proved very popular.

Mr Carsten Linnenberg from AD Solutions GmbH gave another presentation on our joint project in Ethiopia. The title of his presentation was: ‘Planning and construction of a training biogas plant on the campus of Jimma University (JU) in Ethiopia’ (see newsletter article).

Our competition was equally popular.

The conditions for participation: three questions about Awite had to be answered – the answers could be found directly at our exhibition stand. A Garmin Venu 3 smartwatch was then raffled off among all correct entries. We are delighted to announce the winner here:

Congratulations to Mr Florian Wück from Armatec FTS GmbH & Co. KG!

A special surprise on the final day of the trade fair was the award presented by the German Biogas Association (Fachverband Biogas e.V.). Mr Christoph Spurk, Managing Director of Ökobit and acting in his role as Vice President of the Association, presented us with a certificate of honour to mark our 25th company anniversary. This recognition makes us extremely proud and underlines the significance of our work within the biogas industry.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for the congratulations and gifts we received on the occasion of our company anniversary – we truly appreciated them.

25 Years of Awite – A Special Anniversary

To mark this occasion, we celebrated together with Awite’s friends and partners on the evening of 9 December 2025 at the “Rote Bar” in Nuremberg.
With delicious food, good drinks and music, a wonderful atmosphere was created in which we were not only able to raise a toast, but also to relive old stories. It was important to us to express our gratitude in this way for the excellent cooperation and the trust that has made our success possible.

Laboratory Containers Arrive in Ethiopia

After a long journey of around 24,000 km by sea and land, our two laboratory containers have safely arrived at Jimma University in Ethiopia (link: AwiGossip III/2025). They have already reached their final location on site and can now be put into operation. This marks the successful completion of an important stage of the project.

The parallel work on the foundations, the biogas research laboratory and the biogas plant is progressing well. The biogas plant was designed by our project partner AD-Solution and is currently being constructed by them. In future, the plant will convert kitchen waste from the nearby canteen, which serves around 5,000 students, into biogas and fertiliser. The biogas produced will be used as a fuel in the canteen, replacing the electric and wood-fired stoves used up to now.

In the coming weeks, the energy systems with photovoltaic panels and battery storage will be installed. This will make the entire facility almost energy self-sufficient and ensure uninterrupted operation.
We would like to thank our client, the German Biomass Research Centre in Leipzig, as well as the project sponsor, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), for the excellent cooperation. We look forward to being able to report further progress from the project soon.

Our Italian Subsidiary Awite Srl – A Small Success Story

Our Italian subsidiary Awite Srl was founded on 13 August 2013 as a wholly owned subsidiary of AWT Bioenergie GmbH – at a time when the first major biogas boom (2010–2012) had already come to an end. It was not an easy moment to get started, but we stayed the course. Since then, we have carried out more than 2,500 service operations in Italy for our customers.

Legally based in Bolzano, we operate from Busto, north of Milan, or from Verona – right in the heart of Italy’s most important biogas region. From here, we are close to our customers, and that is exactly what matters to us: service-oriented, quick to respond on site, and always ready to help without fuss.

And today? Italy is experiencing a new biogas boom, and we are in an excellent position. By 2026, more than 800 Awite analysis systems will be in operation in biogas and biomethane applications across Italy – a strong indication of how highly our solutions and support are valued.

A big thank you goes to our Squadra Italiana, who give their best every day with passion, expertise and genuine customer focus. And we would also like to highlight the fantastic cooperation with our parent company – not only in our daily work, but also at shared events and celebrations. This connection is something special and is a key part of our joint success.

Visit to Our Partner Cornes AG in Japan – An Exciting Step Forward

In week 43, Thomas and Martin travelled to Japan for the first time – more precisely to visit our young partner Cornes AG in Eniwa on Hokkaido. Our partnership with Cornes has only been in place since 2024, making it one of our newest international collaborations. All the more exciting, then, to finally meet in person.

Cornes AG is far from unknown in Japan: the company has been active in the biogas sector for around 20 years and has already built numerous plants – including those using German technologies – bringing with it an impressive depth of experience. With a network of service and sales locations spread across Japan, Cornes is a particularly strong partner for us. We therefore hope that, together, we will be able to further expand our market presence in Japan and significantly increase the current number of around 20 projects in the future.

For us, it was our first visit to Japan, and the schedule was correspondingly full. In addition to internal training sessions – both conducted by us and by Cornes – we also had a number of extremely interesting customer visits and meetings planned. Particularly noteworthy were the appointments with ORIX and Airwater in Hokkaido, which provided valuable insights into local requirements and potential.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to our partners at Cornes: Tez and Kaori, who supported, accompanied and looked after us around the clock. We would also like to thank CEO Hideto for the time spent together – whether in business discussions or while experiencing the many new impressions we were able to gather from Japanese hospitality, culture and cuisine.

Our conclusion: This visit certainly won’t be the last. We look forward to the next steps in Japan!

AwiLAB Landingpage

For our latest product, Awi2GO, we launched a dedicated landing page last year to provide the best possible support for the market introduction of our mobile gas analysis device.
This success story has now inspired us to create a second standalone page – this time for our two laboratory systems, AwiLAB Digester and AwiLAB Gas Analysis.

The AwiLAB Digester is Awite’s modular continuously stirred tank reactor (CSTR), specially developed for biogas experiments. It is ideal for realistic laboratory simulation of a continuous, anaerobic fermentation of organic substrate (reactor working volume 25 L or 50 L).

Our AwiLAB Gas Analysis system, on the other hand, is the right choice when our customers wish to carry out initial small-scale batch tests with substrates in biogas fermentation vessels and require an intelligent automation system for flow measurement, gas collection and gas analysis.

All features, technical data, diagrams and videos are now presented in detail and in a modern design for our customers and new prospects on our landing page: https://awilab.awite.de/
