Pooling Project Biomethane Gro\u00df-Hesepe<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

As part of the pooling project “Biomethane Gro\u00df-Hesepe”, six biogas plants collectively supply a total of 1,350\u202fm\u00b3\/h of raw gas to a central biomethane upgrading facility (BGAA) in Geeste. The general contractor for the project is Consentis Anlagenbau GmbH<\/a>.<\/p>

The upgrading technology was provided by ETW Energietechnik GmbH<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>

Before being fed into the approximately 18-kilometre-long pipeline network, each biogas plant is equipped with a transfer station (see images). At these transfer stations, the biogas is cooled and purified of H\u2082S using an activated carbon filter. Gas quality is monitored at each station by an AwiFLEX XL, which continuously measures CH\u2084, CO\u2082 and O\u2082, and intermittently measures H\u2082S. The system includes an automatic calibration function, as these measurements are relevant for billing. The gas analysis systems are installed directly in the container of each transfer station.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At the upgrading facility site, the incoming raw gas is first collected in a 1,600\u202fm\u00b3 gas storage tank. The BGAA draws biogas from this storage for processing. The plant separates the biogas into its main components, CH\u2084 and CO\u2082, using a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process. The CH\u2084 is fed into the gas grid, while the separated CO\u2082 is liquefied and used in the food industry. Gas quality is monitored by another AwiFLEX XL, which continuously measures at three sampling points (raw gas, product gas, and off-gas) simultaneously. Additionally, the H\u2082S concentration in the raw gas is measured. To accommodate the varying gas compositions at the measuring points, three calibration gases are used for automatic calibration. A dedicated eighth AwiFLEX gas analysis system is used to condition the biomethane to meet L-gas quality standards.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u2026 and there goes another 40-foot container flying in for our current project in Ethiopia.<\/p>

As part of the overarching projekt ETH-Soil<\/a><\/span>, a training biogas plant is being constructed at Jimma University in Ethiopia on behalf of the German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ) by AD Solutions\u00a0<\/a><\/span>and Awite Bioenergie<\/span><\/a>. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).<\/p>

The training plant will consist of two main units: a laboratory system and an energy plant. In the coming newsletters, we\u2019ll be sharing regular insights into the progress of the project.<\/p>

This time, we\u2019re taking a closer look at one of the two 40-foot containers that make up the laboratory unit.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The lab is designed for the training and education of students and PhD candidates at the Jimma Institute of Technology in the field of anaerobic digestion. We are providing a fully equipped lab for substrate preparation and characterisation. The pilot plant includes six 25-litre stainless steel fermenters, complete with gas analysis, agitators, heating, control systems, and gas volume measurement (see image). This setup provides all the necessary conditions to evaluate local substrates and their potential for biogas production.<\/p>

Both containers are fully fitted out, insulated, air-conditioned, and equipped with water and electricity supply \u2013 a true plug & play solution. These features ensure a working environment perfectly tailored to both research needs and local climate conditions, enabling effective knowledge transfer for the use of biogas technologies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

If that\u2019s not a good reason for a team event, then what is? We\u2019re absolutely thrilled that, in our 25th anniversary year, we were also able to sell a milestone unit.<\/p>

The 5,000th stationary gas analysis system was delivered to D\u00fclmen, North Rhine-Westphalia. 5,000 systems supporting the production of renewable gases \u2013 primarily biogas plants and biogas upgrading facilities \u2013 rely on Awite\u2019s measurement technology and quality. And not just in Germany. Our early focus on international markets has paid off. Incredibly, our systems are now in use in 84 countries around the world, supporting the renewable energy sector. And we\u2019re far from finished.<\/p>

Another milestone to celebrate in May, our first Awi2GO units left our premises \u2013 headed out into the wide world, beginning the long journey toward our 5,000th Awi2GO \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We celebrated all this and more with great enthusiasm \u2013 locally, regionally, and renewably! Powered by hydropower, we floated down the Isar River on a raft with music, food, and drinks \u2013 from Wolfratshausen to the Fl\u00f6\u00dfl\u00e4nde in Munich. It was a time for great conversations, lots of fun, and recharging our batteries for the next 5,000 systems.<\/p>
